This vibrant and intricately detailed vintage poster captures the essence of a spellbinding show by the renowned American magician known simply as George.

Dating back to 1926, this poster advertises an array of mesmerizing acts, including captivating card tricks, mind-boggling illusions, and deft sleight of hand demonstrations, among other mesmerizing feats showcased in this design. It serves as a visual window into the enchanting spectacle that unfolded on stage.

Grover George was born in Zanesville, Ohio in 1887. He embarked on his professional career by enchanting audiences in small American towns with his magical talents. In 1922, his growing reputation led him to acquire both the equipment and the rights to Doc Nixon's Hong Kong Mysteries, setting the stage for his magical journey. One of his most potent tools in promoting his acts was the use of eye-catching posters, and this vintage poster is the most striking example of how he depicted himself as The Supreme Master of Magic.

In the United States, George faced formidable competition from Howard Thurston, the preeminent magician and illusionist of his era. Thurston attempted to eliminate George as a rival by exerting pressure on theaters to choose between him and George, effectively blocking George's progress in the U.S. Undeterred, George made the bold decision to start anew in South America, where his magical career thrived in this burgeoning market. Upon his passing, Grover George found his final resting place in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a testament to his enduring legacy as a master magician and showman.
